The Westbrook Kapa Haka Roopu is made up of students from our senior school (Years 5 and 6).
They come together in Term Three each year to learn new waiata, actions, poi and haka in preparation for the Rotorua Primary School Ahurei held in Term 4. (Kapa Haka Festival).
We pride ourselves on performing a mix of traditional and contemporary waiata. This year we were fortunate enough to secure some funding to replace our piupiu which were over 30 years old. The design on our new piupiu is unique to Westbrook and we can’t wait to show them off when we perform.
This group is extremely dedicated. They represent not only our tikanga Maori and kaupapa Maori at Westbrook; they also excel in the Westbrook Way. The group is tutored by Ms McLaughlin and Matua Ben.
Year 1 and 2 students have the opportunity to take part in Kaha Haka in Term 1, and the Year 3 and 4 students in Term 2.
