Students who have high or very high special needs in a variety of areas of intellectual and/or physical functioning are fully included in mainstream classes. Their programmes are differentiated and tailored to their needs according to the goals in the IEPs (Individual Education Plans). The students are supported by teacher aides who work alongside the teachers. Apart from social and academic learning in class, these students are taught core subjects in individualized programmes by a specialist teacher. Students with hearing impairments in addition receive specialized teaching by Teachers of the Deaf. At Westbrook School, all children with special needs are well integrated and accepted as valued members of the learning community. |
